Merino Wool
Our Merino wool is sourced in South Africa and is Responsible Wool Standard certified.
Merino is valued for its softness, warmth, breathability and natural ability to regulate temperature. It is suited to garments that are worn often and kept for years.
The yarn is dyed on the cone in the Eastern Cape in specified FIELDS colours each season. Being based in South Africa allows us to engage directly with farms, sorting houses, spinning facilities and knitters, giving us a closer understanding of the wool process from fibre to finished garment.
Through ongoing work with our yarn spinners and Cape Town-based knitters, we continue to refine the quality, handle and softness of our knitwear.
Kid Mohair
Kid mohair comes from the first two shearings of the Angora goat, giving the fibre its distinctive softness, warmth and lightness.
Our kid mohair is sourced in South Africa and is Responsible Mohair Standard certified. This standard supports animal welfare, responsible land management and better working conditions across the mohair supply chain.
The yarn is dyed on the cone in the Eastern Cape in specified FIELDS colours, before being knitted and made into garments in South Africa.
Cotton Woven
Cotton woven fabrics form an important part of the FIELDS wardrobe.
Herringbone, twill, dobby and jacquard weaves have become FIELDS signatures, developed with our fabric and manufacturing partners. These fabrics bring structure, texture and versatility to shirts, trousers, jackets and shorts.
The cotton used for these weaves is processed and dyed to specified FIELDS colours, before being woven in Southern Africa.
Cotton Jersey
Cotton jersey is used for pieces that require softness, ease and natural movement.
Its soft handle and natural stretch make it well suited to garments such as the Box Tee, Box Sweater and relaxed layers. These pieces are designed for comfort, but still carry the proportion and refinement central to FIELDS.
The majority of the cotton in our jersey fabrics is processed and dyed in Southern Africa, then knitted, manufactured and finished in South Africa.
Cotton Knitwear
Our cotton knitwear is dyed, knitted and manufactured in South Africa.
We use cotton knitwear for its softness, weight and quiet structure. It offers comfort without feeling overly casual, making it suited to everyday pieces that move between work, home and travel.
Cotton Denim
FIELDS denim is made from 100% cotton.
We choose pure cotton denim because it is durable, breathable and becomes more personal with wear. Over time, the cloth softens, moulds to the body and records the life of the garment.
Our denim is processed, dyed and woven in Southern Africa by a manufacturer working with recycled denim yarn. The fabric is then made and finished into garments in South Africa.
This reflects the broader FIELDS approach: natural fibres, considered construction and clothing designed to be lived in over time.
Leather
Our full grain leather is sourced in South Africa and selected for its durability, natural grain and pebbled texture.
We use leather that is a by-product of the agricultural meat industry, choosing a material that would otherwise be wasted and working with it in a considered way. The leather has a firm tannage to help it hold its shape and is semi-aniline dyed in South Africa.
Semi-aniline dye gives the leather a more consistent colour and light protective finish, while still allowing the surface to develop a natural patina over time. With use, each piece becomes more personal.
Our leather products are handcrafted in South Africa by a specialist manufacturer with more than 50 years of experience. Hardware is currently sourced from Italy while we continue looking for a Southern African supplier that meets the quality we require.
