Our Approach
FIELDS is a contemporary menswear brand creating clothing and accessories from natural fibres in Southern Africa.
Founded in Cape Town in 2019 by Mikael Hanan, FIELDS is designed for the multifaceted man: what he contributes to the world, what he carries privately, and how he moves through it.
Our collections are built around three interconnected worlds: Art, Outdoor and Soul. Art speaks to work, creativity and leadership. Outdoor speaks to movement, nature and the physical world. Soul speaks to the personal, ease and connection.
Together, they form a wardrobe for the different fields of life; work and home, the city and the outdoors, travel and everyday rhythm.
Refinement Over Reinvention
FIELDS creates two collections a year, approaching each season as a process of refinement rather than reinvention.
Working with silhouette, material, colour and construction, building garments that feel relevant now and remain useful over time. Each piece has a reason to exist within the wardrobe.
Seasonal artist collaborations form a considered extension of this work. Original artworks are translated into fabric and garments, bringing culture, experimentation and a distinct African perspective into the collection.
Natural Fibres and Careful Making
Natural fibres are central to FIELDS.
We work with cotton, wool, mohair, linen and leather for their comfort, breathability, durability and ability to become more personal through wear. Our approach is guided by material integrity and Southern African making, selecting fabrics and yarns for quality, feel and long-term use.
FIELDS works with specialist factories and makers across the region. These relationships are collaborative and long-term, allowing us to refine fit, improve quality, reduce waste and support local skill.
We believe the way a garment is made matters: to the people who make it, to the person who wears it, and to the life of the garment itself.
