In July, FIELDS took part in the Karoo Winter Wool Festival in Middelburg, Eastern Cape, a gathering that connects farmers, makers, designers and visitors with the origins and possibilities of South African wool.
Our knitwear formed part of Wool World: Karoo Kraal, a collaborative exhibition co-curated by Viviers and Hoven. Presented inside a working sheep-shearing shed, the exhibition brought together artists and artisans working across fashion, art, craft and design to explore wool, mohair and other South African animal fibres.
At the centre of the exhibition, four wool-lined yurts created spaces for gathering, conversation and discovery. The programme also included a multi-designer fashion presentation, guided walkabouts and discussions exploring the journey from farm to fibre and finished form.
Natural fibres are central to every piece of FIELDS knitwear. Across the collection, we work with wool, mohair, cotton and linen for their warmth, breathability, texture and ability to endure. Taking part in Karoo Kraal was a meaningful reminder of the people, places and processes behind these materials, and of why what we choose to make with matters.
