This past Saturday, our HQ and flagship store at The Old Biscuit Mill welcomed Cape Town artist Paul Senyol for the latest instalment of our Meet the Artist series, as part of Design Week South Africa lineup.

Over coffee by Espresso Lab, customers from our V&A and The Old Biscuit Mill stores joined friends of FIELDS to hear Paul and founder Mikael Hanan discuss the ideas behind this season’s collaboration. Around them, a temporary exhibition brought together Paul’s artworks and moments from his studio, alongside the limited-edition pieces his work inspired.

The conversation traced the beginnings of New Dawn: past FIELDS lookbooks, cut up and rearranged by Paul into a new composition. Their colours and shapes became an artwork, which found its way back into the wardrobe through knitwear, jacket linings and woven details. An intimate presentation of selected looks brought that journey to life.

There was a lovely warmth to the morning, both in the conversation and in the connections made. As Mikael reflected, the success of the collaboration lies in Paul’s work remaining unmistakably his own, while the clothes still feel completely like FIELDS. That same spirit of bringing distinct perspectives together carried into the gathering, where familiar customers met new faces, connected by an interest in the work and a shared thread of FIELDS.

Thank you to Paul, Design Week South Africa, Espresso Lab and everyone who joined us.

Paul’s work remains on view at FIELDS, The Old Biscuit Mill, until 3 November. Come by for a closer look.
