"In Flow", our tenth collection, features the inspiring story of photographer Luke Houba. His work effortlessly captures the raw authenticity of his subjects, all while maintaining a captivating presence in the editorial landscape.

What initially inspired you to pursue photography?

I was always fascinated by my family photographs albums. Born much later than my older brothers it was a way to learn about their youth. My brother helped me find the camera while on a trip together when I was about 15. He showed me a few things on an old Nikon and let me play around with it. Still feel like I’m very much playing around and learning a few things.

Talk to us about how you defined your style and point of view?

I think the interactions and experiences away from photography have helped me find a voice within photography.

Your explorative travels through Africa appear to inspire your work, comment on your creative process and how you choose the destinations you choose to photograph.

I am fortunate enough that my work has allowed me to travel around our continent. The creative process is an ongoing thing, away from the camera as much as when shooting.

Your photographs often evoke a sense of intimacy with the real world. How do you build connections with your subjects to capture such genuine moments?

That’s so kind and special to hear. Most of the time I don’t even feel responsible for the photographs that get made. Almost like something more powerful has allowed me to tell these peoples stories.

Comment on how your collaboration with FIELDS tenth collection came about. What about the brief/brand resonates with you?

My dear friend, Andrea Albertyn, put me in touch with Mikael and it was brilliant to work together. Any kind of collaboration on a project makes me very appreciative and inspired.

How did you bring your vision to life for this brief?

Not thinking about it too much.

Our 10th collection is called ‘In Flow’. How do you maintain a sense of flow in your day to day?

Not taking the “going through motions” for granted.

What brings you joy?

My friends, my partner, the fact that I get to earn a living from my craft. What a gift!

Do you have any advice for aspiring photographers? What lessons have you learned along your journey?

I very much feel that I am too an aspiring photographer and I hope that never changes. Perhaps that exactly - continue to be curious and interested in all things life.

What do you hope the viewer will experience when engaging with your work?

A little bit of joy, a little bit of peace and a little bit of interest.

What ignites your creativity?
