For Freedom Day, Friends of FIELDS gathered at our 44 Stanley store for a morning made by hand, at a gentler pace.

We started at FIELDS, easing into the day before taking the short walk across to visit The Ninevites, a Johannesburg-based studio known for its handwoven rugs and textile work rooted in South African craft, storytelling, and contemporary design, and a previous art studio collaborator in the FIELDS world.

Inside their space, we met the team, learned more about their practice, and geared up for a hands-on weaving workshop guided by rhythm, patience, and the quiet satisfaction of creating something.

Between threads and conversation, the morning unfolded in the FIELDS store, without hurry. There was a pause midway for something to eat, then a return to the loom, hands a little more confident, pace a little more settled.

We closed the workshop bringing the morning full circle: good people, good food, and a quiet reaffirmation that craft, care, and considered work are the reason we do what we do.
